DESCRIPTION:Increase the beauty and productivity of your fruit trees with this informative\, two-part\, hands-on pruning class by locally renowned fruit tree expert\, Monica Maggio. Timely pruning can improve the shape\, strength\, and fruit set of your trees\, and help reduce pest and disease pressure. Part One is a Friday evening lecture\, delivered via Zoom (at your home)\, that will cover general pruning theory. Friday\, Feb. 6 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm via Zoom. (You will be provided with a Zoom link a day or two prior to the class). Note: you must have a (free) Zoom account in order to attend. \n\n\n\nPart Two is a Saturday in-field session that includes experiential instruction on specific techniques to help you learn how to make the best cuts on your fruit trees with confidence and skill. Saturday\, Feb. 7 from 10am to 12 noon in Vancouver (Hazel Dell)\, WA. Exact location provided upon registration. This will be held rain or shine. This portion will include standing and walking the whole time. Dress for the weather and bring water. No tools necessary. Cost: $50 for both Part One and Part Two. SUMMARY:San Juan County Agricultural Summit
DESCRIPTION:The San Juan Islands Agriculture Summit is a valued annual event that provides a unique opportunity for the food and agricultural community from across the islands\, and beyond\, to gather. Designed as a space for inspiration\, education\, and comradery\, the Ag Summit features keynotes\, hands-on workshops\, presentations by farmers and regional specialists\, panel discussions\, meals and social events. \nStarted in 2013 by representatives of Washington State University Extension\, San Juan County Agricultural Resources Committee\, San Juan Islands Agricultural Guild and San Juan Island Grange #966\, this event has rotated between San Juan\, Orcas and Lopez every year\, except 2021 when we adapted to an online program. Each year the program is developed by a collaboration of local agricultural organizations with the guidance of a steering committee representing partners and stakeholders.
